Serials Solutions/Ulrich's technical news

Please note that Ulrichsweb and Ulrich’s Serials Analysis System will be temporarily unavailable from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm PDT on Friday, April 3 (01:00 to 03:00 GMT on Saturday, April 4). Users will not be able to login or access the products during that time period.

This temporary system downtime will allow us to put a series of content enhancements into production. As a result, users may experience intermittent site slowness when using Ulrichsweb and Ulrich’s Serials Analysis System for a period after service restarts. Regular service will be restored by 2:00 PM PDT (20:00 GMT) on Saturday, April 4.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

As always, thank you for being a user of Serials Solutions services. If you need any support or training for either service, please contact us through the Serials Solutions Support Center (http://support.serialssolutions.com) or at clients@serialssolutions.com.

2.0 Toolmaker Library Journal Movers & Shakers 2009

Visit the Z. Smith Reynolds Library's homepage (at Wake Forest University) <http://zsr.wfu.edu/> to view the Toolkit <http://zsr.wfu.edu/toolkit/>
featured in the Library Journal article below:

http://www.libraryjournal.com/MS2009Inductee/2140335992.html

Question to consider:

Should we develop a "Toolkit" feature for the Owens Library homepage?

We could use some of the tutorials and learning objects currently linked from http://www.nwmissouri.edu/library/courses/research/research.htm and we could make new uTube videos that feature how to renew a book, how to request a book through MOBIUS, etc., etc.

From Library Journal (3/1/09) news:

GPO Access will soon be replaced by the Federal Digital System (called FDsys), an integrated system for storing/preserving, describing/organizing, authenticating, searching, and accessing published government information.

"The first public release of FDsys is currently available as a public beta. FDsys may be accessed through http://fdsys.gpo.gov. There are five major releases planned over the next three years."

"Release 1 - Early 2009
-Replace GPO Access functionality and migrate content into FDsys
-Manage content and metadata in content packages
-Exchange descriptive metadata between FDsys and ILS
-Ensure content authenticity and digitally sign PDF documents
-Provide simple, advanced fielded, citation, and Boolean search
-Enable collection-specific access features
-Make content and metadata available for viewing, printing, and downloading"

Circulation notices

We have been having problems cluster wide with circulation notices. Somehow patrons are receiving notices that their holds had been cancelled. The problem is they never placed a hold on that book and the holds are being generated from Conception. If you hear of any patrons receiving these notices please let me know.

Thanks

Sara

Rebooting of MOBIUS Servers

Because we and other MOBIUS libraries continue to have problems with maxing out Millennium ports we received the following information yesterday.

UM Telecomm will be rebooting each of the MOBIUS Sun servers this Sunday morning, March 22, between the hours of 12:00AM and 2:00AM. Innovative has recommended that we reboot our machines due to the repeated issues many of you have had with all ports in use.

I have asked Telecomm to reboot the servers one at a time and to check that each server comes back up before proceeding to the next server.
