New Free EBSCO Database
EBSCO Publishing and the John Carter Brown Library Join Forces to Offer Free Historical Database
EBSCO and the John Carter Brown Library have collaborated to bring a new bibliographic database to libraries, scholars and individuals interested in European works that relate to the Americas. European Views of the Americas: 1493-1750 is a database based on the authoritative bibliography “European Americana: A Chronological Guide to Works Printed in Europe Relating to the Americas, 1493-1750.” European Views of the Americas: 1493-1750 is freely available online at: www.europeanamericana.com.
This new database contains more than 32,000 entries and is a comprehensive guide to printed records about the Americas written in Europe before 1750. It covers the history of European exploration as well as portrayals of native American peoples. A wide range of subject areas are covered, from natural disasters to disease outbreaks and slavery.
While the database is freely available online at www.europeanamericana.com, libraries may add European Views of the Americas: 1493-1750 to their EBSCOhost® profiles by contacting technical support at support@ebsco.com. European Views of the Americas: 1493-1750 will be the fourth database EBSCO has made available for free, joining Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts (LISTA), Teacher Reference Center™ and GreenFILE™.

Mental Measurements Yearbook WITH Tests in Print
"To alleviate these conditions, EBSCO Publishing, in collaboration with the Buros Institute, has agreed to re-engineer these products into a single database. Furthermore, we will combine the Tests in Print citations with the Mental Measurements Yearbook full-text reviews, into a single, more comprehensive record. There are several advantages to this approach, including:
- Full access to all search options will be provided for these products
- All information for a given test will be available in one concise record
- Direct access to MMY full text will be available through a single TIP/MMY citation
- Users will no longer see two results for the same test

EBSCOhost Updates
"The following information summarizes the most significant changes on EBSCOhost:
•The limiter and the date slider column will move from the right to the left of the Result List, a more intuitive position that consolidates the ways users can refine and work with their results in one area. For a look at the updated Result List, you can copy and paste this URL into your browser: http://support.epnet.com/uploads/CustSupport/Images/communication_images/resultlist1.gif.
•Detailed record pages will be more streamlined, and links to full text, your link resolvers, ILL, etc. will be more prominently displayed on the left.
•Users will be able to select multiple clusters and source types when managing results.
•There will be an enhanced PDF Viewer, Content Viewer, HTML Full Text, etc.

•A "breadbox" will show users which limiters, expanders and source types have already been selected, and enable easy removal of these refinements.
•The Hierarchical Subject Authority File in certain databases will be adjusted to align with the style already in use in our academic databases
•Simpler overall interface elements will increase the intuitiveness of the user experience.
For more information on these and other features, visit http://support.ebsco.com."

Popular periodical titles delayed
Four popular magazine subscriptions of Owens Library are delayed this year from the publisher Rodale. The titles are Prevention, Bicycling, Runners World, and Organic Gardening. The customer service message from our vendor Ebsco explained the delay as follows:
"Ebsco was in negotiations with the publisher, Rodale. They have allowed Ebsco to send orders in early Feb 2010. These orders most likely won't be starting until April 2010. I have sent the publishers a claim to advise of start and expire date for each order." Our start and expire dates are 01/01/2010 to 12/31/2010.
